因新冠疫情推迟的第59届威尼斯双年展将于2022年4月23日至11月27日举办。威尼斯双年展日前公布了来自 58个国家的 213 位艺术家参展名单, 在这213 位艺术家中，有180 位从未在威尼斯双年展上展出过。本届双年展主题展将展出超过1000件以上的作品。
本届双年展主题展由意大利策展人塞西莉亚·阿莱马尼（Cecilia Alemani）策划，她本人也是纽约 High Line的艺术总监兼首席策展人。塞西莉亚·阿莱马尼为此次双年展厘定的主题“梦想之乳”（The Milk of Dreams）来自英国超现实主义艺术家利奥诺拉·卡林顿（Leonora Carrington）所作的一本童书。塞西莉亚·阿莱马尼表示，双年展将重点关注三个不同的研究领域：“身体的表现及其变形，个人与技术之间的关系以及身体与地球之间的联系。”
